It made its first flight on May 24th 1962, strapped on the wrist of astronaut Scott Carpenter during the orbital flight of the Aurora 7 capsule. The special feature of this model lies in the fact that all 24 hours in a day can be read off around a single circular sweep of the dial, thereby enabling one to differentiate between day and night, since this notion no longer exists in space.
